The Urban Market Experience

As the cold weather approaches Dubai, there are lots of upcoming outdoor events  happening and one of which is  the Urban Market at Alserkal Avenue. The two-day event includes art, live music, food, workshops, activities and a chance to buy gifts ranging from art and fashion to upcycled bicycles. The market is free to attend and is open to all, offering a platform for the community to get involved in the local arts scene. My first stop of course are my friends, Dana & Kris who has a booth at FN Designs to sell their books, postcards & book marks. They also give a free cupcake from Sweet Taste of Eden when you buy a book!       My mom had her own  face painting booth at The Yard and was a sure hit for kids! Check out her face painting designs and works here.       I also love the idea that Alserkal Avenue is not just a hub for galleries and established artists, you could also unleash the artist in you! There were ongoing …

The POREfessional vs. Face Atelier Ultra Matte Mattifier

I know this product has been out for a long time now but I just had the perfect opportunity to get one for myself last week when I was at Mall of the Emirates and Benefit had a kiosk outside Wojooh and the sales lady enticed me with a free bag if I get three items! No, I did not get three items and I did not get my free bag but I thought to myself, oh well this could be a nice addition to my kit since my Face Atelier Ultra Matte Mattifier is almost finished. To get to the point, is The POREfessional a worthy replacement to the Face Atelier Ultra Matte Mattifier? I’ve used The POREfessional for over a week now and I’m not too happy with the results. Yes, it left my skin smooth and yes, it gave that blurring effect but after 4-5 hours, I noticed that it makes my skin look like it’s peeling unlike when I use my Face Atelier Ultra Foundation on its own. (Read post about Face …

Product Review: Makeup Eraser

I was pretty excited and intrigued when I first saw the Makeup Eraser. I wouldn’t deny but I was doubtful about it at first, how could a normal looking cloth remove my make up just like that? but for practicality’s sake, I have to give it a try. I was having a discussion with myself that if I buy this and it works, I’ll save at least three bottles of make up remover and a lot of cotton! So for AED 135, I’m placed my bet on it! After opening the box, I placed the cloth in the laundry as instructed, once it’s dry I had it ready so when I reach home that day, I could give it a try! Before using the cloth, you have to wet it with warm water and you’re good to go! I still can’t believe my eyes after I’ve tried the make up eraser last night. Yes, without a doubt it is brilliantly effective! I’ve had my foundation, concealer, brows, blush, waterproof eyeliner and lipstick on but it …

Face Atelier Ultra Foundation

Face Atelier is one of the most underrated make up brands at least here in Dubai and there are lots of brands to compete to such as MAC, Make UP Forever, Illamasqua etc. I haven’t tried all foundations that there is so I cannot say that I am a foundation specialist but I really do love Face Atelier Ultra Foundation because if several reasons. It’s silicone based so it seeps into the skin and it doesn’t look cakey at all. If you get the right shade it just looks like your own skin but so much better! It works well with young skin that doesn’t need a lot of product and works well with mature skin too. Because it’s silicone based, the product seeps into the wrinkles and makes the skin look younger and softer. The trick is to get the perfect shade! It’s medium to full coverage. It works on days when you want to look fresh and not too made up and it could work double time if you want a perfect flawless skin …

Natural Charmer

“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” – Audrey Hepburn   More than someone’s beauty, I am more attracted to their attitude and personality. This collaboration with Chinee started with an Instagram post, I just noticed that this cute & charming girl kept liking my posts and from then I got curious and of course, the obvious next step is to stalk her. Apparently, we went to the same college and graduated in the same batch, I’ve had vague memories of her but never really got the chance to be friends with her or say hi when we were in college. After some months of just lurking at her profile and admiring how positive her attitude and vibe is, I approached her and asked if she would be up for a photoshoot and she said ‘yes!’. So, one Saturday afternoon, we met and as soon as I saw her, I was …

& Until the Dreams Come Launch Night

& Until The Dreams Come The show aims to exhibit all watercolor paintings that were inspired by the book & Until The Dreams Come, along with photographs of the details with excerpts from the book illustrating that while you can view any story as a whole, the real story is when you experience it magnified and up close. Danabelle Gutierrez & Until The Dreams Come is a book that whispers and roars. It is on fire and it is drowning. There is no gentle here. It means nothing, until it means something, and suddenly it’s everything. This is a book that has loved and has survived to tell the tale. Kris Kang The watercolour paintings were inspired by the book & Until The Dreams Come. They illustrate the journey of a person in a relationship using the interaction of non-human objects to the human body with its movements and characteristics defining and detailing the emotions depicted in the poems.

I (obviously) Did Not Wake Up Like This

Let’s admit it, behind all those social media perfect photos is a lot of effort. Just this morning, I tried to do a photo shoot for this blog post and it took me 2-3 hours! I had to curl my hair which took me 20-30 minutes, do my make up which is about 45 minutes then set up my camera and lighting for 15 minutes and another 45 minutes to take photos and get the shots that I like. It doesn’t stop there, I also had to import and choose from over a hundred of photos, tweak it a little bit (*only Levels, Curves & Brightness/Contrast are manipulated) on Photoshop and then write this blog. When I say a lot of effort I mean you must have the right tools (camera, lighting, make up, brushes, props), the skills (make up skills should be on point, and you should know how to contort your body to get the perfect angle & at the same time take your photo and you should be able to come up with …

Comfortable In My Own Skin

It’s the first time that I get photographed by someone else apart from my trustee camera, tripod and remote. It was a long process until I finally appeased my self to say this but, I am comfortable in my own skin. I am not a size 0 nor I have a face that could heal cancer or leprosy but guess what…I am happy and what’s more important than that? I         I’m sorry but I am not sorry for this little post about self love and appreciation.

Beyoncé & Jay-z Under the Sea 25th Birthday Celebration

I just turned 25 last month and what’s a better way to welcome adulthood but to throw a themed party. Well actually, it was my beau and my closest friend here in the land of the sand who organized and made this party come to life. October wasn’t an easy month for me, but with a little help from my friends and support from my beau I got through the month strong and steady. I guess that’s what birthdays are for, to remind you of reasons why you’re still here on earth occupying space and breathing every moment of what life has in store for you.  3 valuable lessons I’ve learned as I turned 25  It doesn’t get easier, you get tougher. Sometimes, you get tough unconsciously but most of the times it is an everyday choice. You have to hold on to the reasons why you are fighting, why you’re still standing. Things could shatter in front of you in a split second, always have a clear picture of your whys, your reasons, your …

Discovering Sri Lanka

If you are working in the UAE, there are inevitable times when you have to exit the country for a a (visa) status change and other complications regarding visa. These are one of the moments when it applies to me and instead of the going to the usual “Exit Countries” for Filipinos, I went on a budget adventure to Sri Lanka for 5 days. If you are a Filipino passport holder you can enter 60+ countries without acquiring a visa beforehand and one of which is Sri Lanka though you have to acquire for an ETA prior to your departure, it costs around $10 and it’s very easy to get one- you just have to go to this website  and fill up all the necessary information and pay through credit or debit card. Apart from visiting Sri Lanka for the first time, it’s also my first time to book a hostel through AirBnb. I booked for a studio apartment for 5 days and it only costs AED 550. My air ticket is about AED800 and I brought …
