Black & White with Paula

It’s fascinating how the internet and social media connect people all over the world. In our case, social media became a tool to meet up and work with like-minded & creative people. Paula is London-based model and blogger traveling to Dubai for a week, she approached me for a collab shoot and I’d be making a mistake if I say no to that beauty. For this shoot, I opted for a natural makeup that emphasizes her natural beauty. We just wanted everything authentic and as raw as it could get, in fact, these photos are edited minimally – no skin retouching done. My good friend and one of my most trusted photographers, Joem perfectly captured Paula’s personality- candid, fun and a natural stunner. Product Review: Giella Eye M Glam Mineral Highlighter

I’ve recently joined Giella Custom Blend Cosmetics as their first Brand Ambassador in the UAE. I am thrilled to be part of the Giella family because it’s a brand that I truly believe in. Before I was even approached to become a brand ambassador, Eye M Glam is already my go-to highlighter. As a beauty writer, I promised myself that I will only recommend and promote products that I truly believe in. I don’t see the point of promoting something that you don’t actually like, it just doesn’t make sense to me. Giella products are hand-crafted with ingredients selected to customize the perfect product just for you. Products can be customized for allergies including nut oils and butters. She stands behind her products as being the finest in quality, texture and shade selections. All GIELLA products use the most pure ingredients that can  be found giving their makeup real skincare benefits. Giella is based and manufactured in the US but they deliver internationally and all the products are available online. All Giella products are cruelty free, non-pore …

Brand Experience: THEORY Natural Beauty

It was such an honor to be friends and colleagues with the inspiring woman behind the brand THEORY. Dee is a woman on a mission, her passion for make-up and beauty has driven her brand to a whole new level. When I first met her, we instantly clicked! She was like my long-lost sister! Or the sister I wish I had! When she introduced her products to me, and I can’t believe that this woman created a brand with full range of products from foundations (with variations from organic, professional to custom blend), eyeshadows, blush, lipsticks, lip liner, mascara, brow pens..I could go on an on about it but it’s easy to say that the brand is complete! The brand caters everyone, from everyday women to professional make-up artists. We’ve recently worked together for Runway Dubai 2016 which her brand sponsored. As a make-up artist, I like coming prepared for a job. It was a very different experience for me when we did Runway Dubai, I didn’t bring anything but myself. She provided all the …

Styled Photoshoot – The Ballerina Bride

Last week, I had the pleasure of working with Paula Scalco, one of the best wedding photographers in Dubai. She has a romantic taste and treatment to her photos that highlights the wonderful celebration of love. We had the photoshoot at The Bridal Showroom and of course, they also provided us this beautiful and dreamy wedding gown that’s perfect for a ballerina bride. As for the hair & make-up, I kept it very simple and fresh. I mainly used the technique ‘strobing’ to highlight the high points of her face. I gave her the bridal glow and balanced it with the a little bit of rosiness on her cheeks and lips. I added a very natural and light eyelashes to give emphasis on her eyes and I also used light and shimmer eyeshadow to open up her eyes a little bit more.    Photography: Paula Scalco Photography Hair & Make-up: The Louise Monique Gown: The Bridal Showroom Flowers: 800 Flowers Model: Rose Emma

The Power of Make-up: Faux Freckles

The Power of Make-up; How I change Emma’s look from flawless to flawsome! Some of you might have noticed that I mainly work with Emma, the reason behind that is first, she’s my favourite girl. Second, she has phenomenal facial features. Third, she’s an upcoming model here in Dubai and lastly, I want to show her face in different types of make-up and see how make-up could change one’s look. In this shoot, I’ve done a very simple & fresh make-up but I’ve also added faux freckles on her. Yes! those freckles aren’t real. 🙂 Photo Credits to: Enchanté Studios Comment below if you liked her look and if you want to suggest a different look for Emma. xxx Louise Monique

I (obviously) Did Not Wake Up Like This

Let’s admit it, behind all those social media perfect photos is a lot of effort. Just this morning, I tried to do a photo shoot for this blog post and it took me 2-3 hours! I had to curl my hair which took me 20-30 minutes, do my make up which is about 45 minutes then set up my camera and lighting for 15 minutes and another 45 minutes to take photos and get the shots that I like. It doesn’t stop there, I also had to import and choose from over a hundred of photos, tweak it a little bit (*only Levels, Curves & Brightness/Contrast are manipulated) on Photoshop and then write this blog. When I say a lot of effort I mean you must have the right tools (camera, lighting, make up, brushes, props), the skills (make up skills should be on point, and you should know how to contort your body to get the perfect angle & at the same time take your photo and you should be able to come up with …
